Takers 2010

image from here

Its been a while since I last visited the cinema... been waiting for this one actually, as there're Paul Walker and Hayden Christensen :P (normal la, sometimes we watch movies also because of handsome guys and pretty girls)

Starring: Paul Walker, Hayden Christensen, Chris Brown, Matt Dillon

A seasoned team of bank robbers, including Gordon Jennings (Idris Elba), John Rahway (Paul Walker), A.J. (Hayden Christensen), and brothers Jake (Michael Ealy) and Jesse Attica (Chris Brown) successfully complete their latest mission and lead a life of luxury while planning their next job. When Ghost (Tip T.I. Harris), a former member of their team, is released from prison he convinces the group to strike an armored car carrying $20 million, but only God and he knows the motives behind. As the "takers" carefully plot out their strategy and draw nearer to exacting the grand mission, a reckless police officer (Matt Dillon) inches closer to arrest the criminals.
But criminals are criminals, they surely need to pay for what they do... In the end, only left 2 of them....
*infor taken from IMDB*

The movie lasted for nearly 2 hours (which is abit too long), lots of gun shooting and action as well. Overall its ok for me but the ending is abit too brief.

Rating: 3.5/5

Zen G at Kamunting

We've just got our company perfomance incentive so its time for some makan makan celebration :P

This time with colleagues from Finance department. We went to this Zen G vegetarian restaurant. I went once few years back, and never visit it anymore due to its slow service =_= This time, my colleague Loi actually made a booking through phone in advance. we waited for about 5 mins before the food served.

Zen G restaurant, a small yet cozy shoplot..

lots of vegetarian varieties..

they even have ala carte menu, and most of the ingredients are homemade. According to Loi, the shop owner (also the cook) is a very nice man, and he's very health conscious

here's our 1st dish, mini claypot steamed tofu with broccoli (the mini claypot is so cute :P)

also have this, mixed greens with mushrooms

rendang chicken, this one is really nice! But too much for the 4 of us =_=

the chef's recommendation, fish with sweet honey sauce

Overall the food is good! The price is reasonable too, RM 39 including rice and drinks. Before we left we gave some feedbacks to the chef on the overall service. No wonder the service is slow, because it's an one-man show. Not only does the chef needs to prepare the cooking, he also needs to take order, prepares the drinks, serve the food and bill. And I think he needs to clean up the plates also =_=

However, we're planning on the next trip! Hopefully this time, we'll see some improvement ;)

Make up course

From the classical make up contest I participated last month, I redeemed an 10 hours make up courses, and paid additional RM260.

The course ended and I'm one level up in terms of make up knowledge :P

the 1st class, we learnt to sketch shape our eyebrows, on a paper ;)
according to Ivy (the make up artist), eyebrows should be drawn from the tips and blend softly towards the end

2nd and 3rd class, we use colored chalk and learnt to create layered eye makeup (some are demonstrated by Ivy).
Always start with eyeshadow base, then the lighter color, followed by the darkest. add some black/grey color at the outer corner of the eyes if you want to create smokey effects

4th class, a simple smokey eyes of bronze and brown color. Always start with a clean face, apply foundation (blending downwards and outwards), concealer (if need to) and top with powder foundation to lock the shine.

close up, can see that the double eyelid stickers were not applied properly :P this is a full eye makeup with eyebrows, as well as fake lashes

5th class, another smokey effects, topped with inner eyeliner (内眼线, I used gel eyeliner). Usually I dont draw the inner eyeline, as it requires a quick move and the eyeliner must be as close to the eye as possible. if you do it slow, you'll feel the itchiness and for some people, they might even teared..however, drawing inner eyeline can enlarge the eyes instantly, create a very dramatic look ^^

6th class, something like nude make up (裸妆), a very popular trend now in Taiwan/Korea. just abit of eyeshadow, with mascara (no fake lashes). a great look for day time outings or going to the office ;)

another camwhored picture :P complete with foundation and lipstick. By the way, I used Aery Jo products throughout the whole courses.

last but not least, I used the cash vouchers I've won to buy an 2-way eyebrow and eyeliner pencil, and a color party eyeshadow (this is the color I used during the course).

p/s: I only share some simple tips, as I believe there're alot of online make up tips and tutorials available these day

Is your job ruining your body?

Another informative post, hope you all dont mind ;)

DO YOU SIT ALL DAY LONG? It's official: Sitting too much is bad for you. Not only does it place pressure on the low back and tailbone, it's also found that the more time people spend on their butts each day, the more likely they are to die of cancer or heart disease.
How to stay healthy: "For five minutes every hour, get up and do something — a trip to the bathroom or the watercooler works, but the more active you can be, the better.
(Dont worry about this, I get tea session a few times a day at work =_=)

photo from here

DO YOU TAKE CARE OF KIDS? Many moms end up with soreness and tightness of the low back and shoulders, what should be called "mommy back." Try to do some light exercises and strenches to relief the soreness.
(Mummies out there, do you encounter the same thing?)

DO YOU STAND FOR HOURS ON END? Women who stand for more than eight hours a day have significantly higher rates of varicose veins than those who are on their feet less. How to stay healthy: After a long day of putting pressure on your legs and feet, the smartest thing to do is move them. Increasing circulation by moving around is the best thing.
(I think this applies to sales promoters!)

Man and PMS

Women and men each have monthly hormone cycles, with estrogen and testosterone levels fluctuating. A woman’s hormonal cycle is clearly marked in red by the arrival of our periods every month, punctuated sharply by multiple precursor symptoms.

Interestingly, a study published a few years ago shows that the majority of men claim to suffer from a range of symptoms most usually associated with pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS). The cause? Most often a sudden fall in testosterone – the hormone responsible for sex drive, sperm production and muscle tone. A man’s cycle isn’t marked with such obvious red checks as a woman’s, but that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have his period! It’s just invisible.

PMS affects everyone differently, and varies in its severity. Some common symptoms include:

- tension (which will make people around him tension as well)
- stress (displays through his everything-is-so-wrong face)
- anxiety (eg: follow up on works NON STOP)
- mood swings (which I think results in sudden raise of voice etc)
- increased emotional sensitivity (he's nice to you now but change within seconds)
- changes in libido (erm, not sure, need to ask his wife :P)

So guys, dont complain when your female partners are having PMS. I think we all are the same ;)

p/s: I'm refering to someone in specific, not my hubby nor my father.. Hope you know who! :P

The amazing facts about lemon

1. Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of lemon juice to the wash cycle to brighten up those fading whites.
(very useful! Especially on those old clothes..)

2. Relieve a sore throat. Cut a lemon in half. Skewer one half over a medium flame on a gas stove until the peel turns golden brown. Let cool slightly, then mix the juice with 1 teaspoon of honey. Swallow the mixture.
(a natural method of relieving sore throat! why not?)

3. For subtle highlights in blond hair, simmer two sliced lemons in water for one hour (add more water if needed). Strain, then pour into a spray bottle.
(haha, great for people who have colored hair like me!)

4. To remove tough food stains from light wood and plastic cutting boards, slice a lemon in half, squeeze onto the soiled surface, rub, and let sit for 20 minutes before rinsing. The best part? You'll have a house that smells like a lemon grove rather than chemicals.
(not only do this remove stain, it smells nicer too!)

China or local one?

A funny yet rather annoying incident:

Had dinner with hubb at Yang Sheng Ge last Saturday. Once we entered the shop, he greeted a chinese man seated next to us, I think he's in his mid 40s, with a few more friends.

I then asked hubb who is he, and he told me he's a friend who is also doing air cond business. we then continued our dining as usual.
Done with dinner, paid the bill, and we walked off the shop. Suddenly that uncle shouted at hubb and waved at him, I thought they have something to discuss so I waited outside.

here comes the funny thing, I asked hubb what happened and he said:

Hubb: The uncle whispered to me, China or local one? =_=""
I told him she's my wife la! walau eh~

And I was told that the uncle went 'Oh your wife ar? Sorry sorry!! I thought you havent married la! paiseh paiseh' =_=

No doubt he apologised, I still feel abit offended. Well, even IF I look like those 'China bicycle' (if you know what I mean), he should not ask so rudely like this. If he really wanna know, I'd appreciate if he changed his question to 'Is that your wife/gf? China or local one?'

Later on, we told our friends about this during our usual yum cha session, everybody had a good laugh and I dint really feel anything. But thinking about it again, I started to feel annoyed.

And if I can, I wanna tell this uncle: China or not, it's none of your business. Even if you own a China bicycle, doesnt means everyone else does. Come on! So please watch your mouth!!

Lunch with love

A bowl of scrumptious and nutritious ba zhen soup noodles (八珍汤面线), from dearest mummy!

I totally forgot about my chinese birthday until mum reminded me yesterday.. it's still her tradition to cook us noodles, which symbolizes longevity if eaten during birthdays.
Like I mentioned, I'm a soup lover so I can drink them plain, with rice or noodles. this ba zhen soup is well known for its function in blood enrichment.

Thank you mum! You're always the best! *mwwaahh*

Chicken soup for the soul

If you know me well, you'd know I'm a soup lover.
Basically I love all types of soup, especially chinese herbal soup ;)

Had this chicken soup (养心宁神鸡汤) yesterday during lunch time, which according to the cook, can helps to sleep better, as well as calming our mind. Hmm, should have taken this for dinner instead...

The soup has lots of wolfberries, lotus seeds and chinese licorice, and also slices of chicken.
Wolfberries are famous in improving eyesight, and reduce tiredness; lotus seeds are good in promoting health and is a good anti aging source; chinese licorice helps in detoxification and reduce cholesterol.

I think the recipe is pretty simple, should drink more this kinda of soups...

By the way, today's 20.10.2010, such a special day! I wish all my readers a wonderful day! ;)

Beating hot days...

Weather is terribly hot these days right? Though I hardly feel the heat during day times as I'm in air conditioning room most of the times, but what about people who doesnt have air conditioning system at home?
Well, through Cleo magazine, I got some useful ways to cool your home, they're very environmental friendly too!

1. Open all windows in the morning or evening to let the breeze in.

2. If closing windows during the day makes you feel suffocated, leave them open but block the sunlight by installing blinds or shades.

3. If you're not using air conds, you're likely to switch on ceiling fan, but this will only blow hot air throughout the house, so use a box fan instead, and place a box of ice in front so that it'll create cool breeze.

4. White or light colour paint works great on reflecting sunlight. So, go for more white!
These are indeed pretty simple tricks we all can practise, they save money too! But I do hope that it rains soon =_=""
It's getting late now, off to bed soon, good night!

Sweet treats

Received a parcel the other day, a solid box wrapped in white paper....

hmm.. the handwriting looks very familiar.. ^^

Its from Roseline! ;)

Well, Ros is my pen pal (I wonder how often does people write to each other these days?). Back in secondary schooling time (about 10 years ago), I used to buy an entertainment magazine called Galaxie. Inside, there's a section where you can send your contact and mailing address to make new friends from all over the country. One day, I decided to write to this girl, Roseline, from Penang (I forgot, or she initiated 1st?) from here, we started corresponding through letters up until today.
fyi, we havent met each other before, only through photos sent in letter, and also Friendster (a hit back then) However, we lost contact when I furthered my studies in UM, and I think I lost her contact as she has moved. I thought we'd lost contact forever but few years later, we found each other again, LOL :D All thanks to Facebook! We now no longer write to each other but correspond through emails and FB already.
I'd say, Ros is my only pen pal who I still keep in touch with until now. I did wrote to a few more pen pals but all has gone missing =_=

Recently she went for a short company trip at Langkawi and sent me these:
my all time favourite chocolates! Though they're not some expensive luxuries, but it's the heart that counts! I trully appreciate this! I treat them as my belated birthday gift, muahaha ;)

Hope you're reading this Ros, once again, thank you very much! ^^

"True friendship is like sound health; the value of it is seldom known until it be lost."

Til then, have an awesome weekend!

*end of edit*

I received e-invitation from Cryst through Facebook few weeks ago and later on, received her wedding invitation card. To be honest, I was abit surprise to receive her invitation! Thats because we did not really meet before and only contact through FB and blogger. LOL ;D

It was my 1st time attending wedding reception at Boulevard Hotel *jakun* In order not to late, I purposely left Puchong earlier. Unfortunately, I was still late to the wedding due to traffic jam in the car park, I cant believe it took me about 30-40 mins to find a parking at Mid Valley! =_= Anyway, I managed to find one and quickly walked to Wild Rice restaurant, Boulevard.

wedding favors provided by the newly wed, how nice! there're lollipop and heart shaped chocolates inside..

such romantic nice backdrop

the newly wed, Cryst and Ivan

quickly grabbed the chance to snap photo with them while they have the time.. the bride looked absolutely gorgeous! So as the groom!

it was a buffet dinner.. I think buffet style is nice too! as the guests and the newly wed can move around freely

cannot resist temptations, I moved to desserts right away!
