Portuguese egg tarts

I am always an egg tart lover, especially Portuguese egg tarts.

To satisfy my tarts cravings, I tried to make my own Portuguese tarts yesterday.

Here are the ingredients:
(Recipe for 18 small tarts)
120g UHT whipping cream
120g sugar
4 egg yolks
2 tbsp cornflour
520g full-fat fresh milk (I used normal full cream milk)
1 tsp vanilla extract
6 frozen puff pastry shells

Steps to make the custard filling:
1. Whisk cream, sugar, yolks, milk and cornflour till smooth.

2. Stir over medium-low heat until the mixture is thick enough to coat the pot thinly.

3. Then place the pot in water-bath. Add vanilla extract. Stir until the mixture is half-cool. Leave to cool completely.

4. Preheat oven to 250°C. At the mean time prepare the pastry base. I used the ready-made puff pastry and it saves my time, a lot. And I am using the small muffin tray.

5. This is the puff pastry I bought from a local bakery shop. Comes in 10 pieces per pack for RM 9, I used only 6 pieces to make 18 small tarts. The pastry is thick so I actually divide each pieces into 2-3 individual sheets.

6. Fill each shells with the custard mixture. Not too full to avoid over flow when baking.

7. Bake for about 30-35 minutes.

8. And finally..........
Don't worry about the burnt custard, that's the unique look of Portuguese tarts ;)

The pastry is crispy, and the custard is smooth, creamy and sweet, almost perfect!

Care for some for tea time? :p

    4. SK, hehe yea, a major come back! You know I am glad that the mojo is here for so long!

Yea that was in the beginning ma, sure very 'laku'!

Yaya I heard must try the Macau tarts!

The pastry shrunk cause it's cold already.. But still taste good.

Err fire gun, not necessary la, I am not making creme brulee.. Just bake in oven and it'll achieve the similar effects.

  18. Oooh, yummies! Egg tart's my favorite!

As to using the ready-made pastry, it'd be like what the Taiwanese folks would say, 懒人的做法. =) I've tried doing a quiche pastry from scratch, and my hands were all buttery and tired from all the kneading...

2D1N Hatyai trip

I have been to Hatyai many times and I am not bored of it yet, haha!! xD
It's one of my favorite place to go, I mean considering the fact that I can't really travel oversea at the moment (no money and no time).
But traveling to Hatyai is still consider 'oversea' la right? 😆 It's just that we go there by car instead of plane.... Just 2 hours plus to reach kastam, almost like from Taiping to KL.

We had a short getaway to Hatyai last month, it was 2 days after the Songkran festival. We tagged Aden and Toby along so hubby suggested to avoid that festival.

Journey was smooth from Taiping all the way to the kastam, just the queue at the kastam was a bit tiring. We managed to check in early, lucky!

We stayed at Grand Pink hotel, I simply love this hotel because the room is big and clean! Staff service is nice too! Highly recommended, heard it's been refurnished lately. It's located next to Lee Garden Plaza so it's easy to find!
I also love the spacious bathro…

The unwelcomed birthday presents

(Note: Quite a long post, I skipped my afternoon nap to write this so please read everything ya!! xDD)

Past 2 weeks were really exhausting for me.

It all started on 20th April when Aden developed a mild fever, he was tired and sleepy, I let him skipped school for 2 days.

He seldom takes afternoon nap, when he does, it means he is not feeling well :(

The next day, it was Toby's turn😢
Poor boy, his temperature reached 39° and it was on and off~
Then I notice he started to have these cute double eyelids for a few days~ Haha not sure why~
He was feeling really unwell, very lethargic, no appetite and super duper clingy to me!

Then both brothers started to cough badly 😢😢
So on the 25th, I brought them to the pediatrician again.  He examined both boys and suspected it could be pneumonia and even dengue (because their fever were on and off). Suggested to get admitted right away.
I wasn't sure if that's necessary because I knew once admitted, have to stay for at least 5 days (h…
