Formula milk for Aden

Aden has been drinking Dumex Mamex formula milk ever since I stop breastfeeding. Thank God he is ok with it all this while, hence we never thought of switching brands for him.

But things changed lately as some of the baby's formula milk were being recalled, due to contamination, and Dumex Mamex is one of it :(
I can't tell if the tin at home was affected but for the sake of Aden, I decided to stop feeding him that and went survey/study other brands immediately.

Was shocked when I read about the news!
Well, as a first time mum, I think it's no surprise that I am so worried about it! Though Aden is still doing ok, I want to be safe than sorry, who can guarantee things will be fine right?

But at the same time, I am in dilemma whether to buy another tin of the same brand or take this opportunity to introduce Aden to other brands. Switching formula milk for a baby/toddler can be a good thing, but also can be a nightmare, I personally believe it's a type of 'knowledge'. We have to watch out for any tummy upset, change of color/frequency in stool, and even skin allergies. Since Aden is doing fine with Dumex all this while, that's why we never thought of switching.

Anyway, I asked opinions from other mummies friends and after much consideration, I decided to give Bellamy's organic milk a try.

Couldn't find this at my hometown so have to order online, thank God their service was fast, I received it the next day.
Aden has been taking this for 3 days now and so far, nothing unwanted happens (touchwood!). But the only changes I noticed is the frequency of his bowel habits. He poops 3-4 times per day (sometimes even more) when he was with Dumex, but only 1-2 times these few days. I wonder does it have to do with the new formula milk?
Hubby suggested to switch back to Dumex, well, I don't know! Perhaps I shall monitor for a few more days?
Well mummies out there, mind to share your thoughts on this? Appreciate that!

  1. actually not all the batches are affected. We have a list provided by the company so we can keep track of the affected ones.

Switching milk formula should be done gradually and not immediately.

    4. Wenn, the brand is affected but I am not sure if that tin he is consuming affected or not, but for safety reason I had stop feeding him that.

Small Kucing, yes I know, but too bad I have throw the tin away so cannot check the batch number!

  2. I hope that Aden won't poop that frequent after the 4th day. I'm shocked that Mamex is being recalled. IMO, every babies 'acception' on formula milk is different, pocoyo can't drink Anmum, it gave him constipation. You can try Wyeth S26 if he still not ngam with this milk (just a suggestion). Perharps, the next batch of Mamex will be approved as safe.

    1. Haha, actually I already used to it, washing his bum bum frequently in a day, so I don't mind the frequency :p

Heard about s26, some friends are buying that!

  5. Yes, shocking!!!! From a country that is sooooo strict about people bringing in food - imagine they themselves are exporting contaminated stuff.

China banned the milk sometime back...and they have been in denial until now - finally admitted it. I read that they sent milk to a primary school there for a project - imagine all those kids drinking! I do hope no serious harm would come to the poor things.

I guess you will have to look for alternatives from other countries, just to be safe - dunno which "batch" they keep talking about and insisting that the rest is ok.

Incidentally, Ammum and a whole lot of other brands come under that Fonterra company - can check their website and see...

  6. Not a mummy to human kids. But a few other pals are also feeding Bellamy to their toddlers.

with any milk formula, do look into the ingredients especially sugar which is hidden with terms like sucrose, maltose etc. Ever tasted the abby milk, cereals, biscuits and all and wondered why it is so sweet? Hehehe.

The recalls can happen to any brands. Just go online to check on batch recalls which its a good thing for the Internet and mobile browsing these days:D

    1. oh, i know nothing about milk powder, but then i instead thing it may not be a bad thing to actually switch milk powder for the kids.. my thought here is that, never let them be too dependable on one brand and then get too sensitive to the others.. :)

Haha you are right about this! It's not a bad thing at all to change baby's formula milk, but still have to monitor closely.

  13. You wanna hear a secret? I think I told Yvonne before that all milk brands in Malaysia come from the same powdered milk supplier in NZ. Our locals will go and collect the bulks of bags and bring back to their factories to add on flavours and ingredients only. Please don't be misled by advertisements that has so much ingredients to make babies smarter. Our grandparents drank condensed milk and many were intelligent enough to enter universities too.

    1. Opps, now it's no longer a secret. Hehe.

But thanks for sharing this with me!
I totally agree with you, our grandparents also din't drink expensive milk back then but still live healthily!

    2. a lot of numbnuts! can go to university. doesn't make you smart, just because you happen to be populated with half the planets brains! LOL!

now on your knees boy. and suck! it up! LOL! ill ram you up to the high moon and back! LOL! then you can come and share all of your tales with us all.

    3. Ooi!!! Babies in the past all had breast milk. Some might have be given condensed milk...and in those days, it was milk! Today, it's sweetened creamer - kelapa sawit...and there is a warning on the can NOT to give to babies, Twilight Man!

      Delete
    4. Twilight Man's right on the first part, STP. On STP's defense, there was no such thing as formula milk or even skim milk in the past. Just milk from the cows and breast milk.

      Delete
    5. STP, haha you are right also, many were breastfeed babies!
And yes, certain dairy products are not baby-friendly.

  14. I was born a big sized baby at almost 9lbs. I drank 2 bottles at every feeding until my father went almost bankrupt cos I was so greedy. Today I am 6 foot tall and the brands of milk didn't really matter to help me grow.

  15. heard about the milk recall. Just hope they resolve it soon. NZ milk is well known for its quality control and it is really a shock to heard of the contamination. My girl is drinking Pedisure while my boy us taking Anmum.

As for the poo frequency I do believe it is because of the new milk formula but as long as Aden drinks enough fluid and poo everyday it is fine. Don't worry too much. It is good that he wants to drink new milk formula because most toddlers wouldn't want to change.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yes, that's what many were shocked!
I hope they really check carefully on this.

Yes he is drinking enough fluid, and taking greens and fruits too.

  17. This Fonterra issue surprised me too and I first read about the news in China. Sigh...there is just no end to milk powder problems. We can't trust China-produced milk either and recently just carted back 8kg of milk from Msia. Luckily Chloe has "grown up" and doesn't drink a lot of milk now. Otherwise, we will have a lot of headache managing her milk powder supply here.

I'm not fussy about infant formula. After Chloe turned 1, I fed her many different brands cos I didn't believe in sticking to just one brand. She has no problem accepting and tolerating any milk until now.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yep, we gotta be more careful when purchasing products from China!

Glad to know that Chloe can accept other than one milk, it's good actually. I hope Aden will be the same too.

  19. I just switched Faith's milk from Anmum to Similac. Huh..Aden poops 3-4 times in a day? I think that's too many times wor. If he has bowel movement daily then I think the milk is alright..sometimes skipped a day without bowel movement is normal.

My hubs bro is working for Abbott..he advised us to go for US milk brands..not NZ, China, Japan

  26. Both of my kids are taking - Enfa range. I can't make much comparison. But so far as I know, my kids with Enfa their poop-ing time is very consistent, 1-2 times a day.

Aden poops 4 times a day? that's alot. You have to depend how watery his poops are... if 4th days continuous you'll have to stop and swtich to a better one.

For myself, BM is the best solution. But my commitment towards that is not there. No choice have to give them the second best choice which is FM.

    1. I know Enfa, I think it's a good brand.

Of course BM is the best milk for all babies, but not all mothers can breastfeed for so long.
