Portuguese egg tarts

I am always an egg tart lover, especially Portuguese egg tarts.

To satisfy my tarts cravings, I tried to make my own Portuguese tarts yesterday.

Here are the ingredients:
(Recipe for 18 small tarts)
120g UHT whipping cream
120g sugar
4 egg yolks
2 tbsp cornflour
520g full-fat fresh milk (I used normal full cream milk)
1 tsp vanilla extract
6 frozen puff pastry shells

Steps to make the custard filling:
1. Whisk cream, sugar, yolks, milk and cornflour till smooth.

2. Stir over medium-low heat until the mixture is thick enough to coat the pot thinly.

3. Then place the pot in water-bath. Add vanilla extract. Stir until the mixture is half-cool. Leave to cool completely.

4. Preheat oven to 250°C. At the mean time prepare the pastry base. I used the ready-made puff pastry and it saves my time, a lot. And I am using the small muffin tray.

5. This is the puff pastry I bought from a local bakery shop. Comes in 10 pieces per pack for RM 9, I used only 6 pieces to make 18 small tarts. The pastry is thick so I actually divide each pieces into 2-3 individual sheets.

6. Fill each shells with the custard mixture. Not too full to avoid over flow when baking.

7. Bake for about 30-35 minutes.

8. And finally..........
Don't worry about the burnt custard, that's the unique look of Portuguese tarts ;)

The pastry is crispy, and the custard is smooth, creamy and sweet, almost perfect!

Care for some for tea time? :p

Yaya I heard must try the Macau tarts!

The pastry shrunk cause it's cold already.. But still taste good.

Err fire gun, not necessary la, I am not making creme brulee.. Just bake in oven and it'll achieve the similar effects.

  18. Oooh, yummies! Egg tart's my favorite!

As to using the ready-made pastry, it'd be like what the Taiwanese folks would say, =) I've tried doing a quiche pastry from scratch, and my hands were all buttery and tired from all the kneading...

*还没参加抽奖游戏的朋友们,快快按这里吧~ 到今晚10点罢了哦!* (For those who have not participate in the Bangkok giveaway, click HERE before 10pm today!* *帮我的家换了形象,还好吧?^^ *
Hmm

BFF trip to Bangkok 2013: The food post

Bangkok is not only a heaven for the men shopping but also food! I've actually Google and blog hopping beforehand to see what's worth to eat at Bangkok, can only chose the most popular ones as we were there for only 4 days 3 nights, a very rush trip.
I've filtered out those food we ate during the trip which I think worth mentioning.
@ Food court, Platinum Mall Green curry chicken rice
Beef noodles
Fruit crepe
The food court is so big here in Platinum Mall, hundreds of tables are provided but almost all are occupied.

Dessert @ Swensen, Platinum Mall

(pale looking face, first day after touching down) Swensen is not in my itinerary, we decided to go here instead of Mr Jones Orphanage at Siam Center cause of the location. Siam Center is further away from where we stay, but Platinum Mall is just about 10 minutes walk from the hotel. End up, no regrets! Much cheaper and yummier compared to Malaysia.

T&K seafood, Chinatown  (It's easier to get here by metered cab)

By far…

To Penang again

Another Penang trip sponsored by my brother <3

The last staycation at Penang was during April (Click HERE to read).

Driving to Penang is easy for me, just about an hour, smooth drive along the highway and on the bridge, slightly jam from Gurney towards Batu Ferringhi though~

And here we are! This time we checked into Park Royal resort again, because we got a complimentary upgrade to suite rooms as promised by the manager 😁
The lounge area is now opened after refurnished, very big and comfortable place
Waiting to check in, wefie first la! 😄
Welcome drinks

Check-in was fast, the boys can't wait to see the rooms!

The room is big and nice with all basic necessities, nothing much to complain la haha!

Complimentary snacks and nutmeg juice

It has a smaller toilet outside...

... and a bigger one with bathtub near the bed. Needless to say, my sons were the most excited ones when they see the bathtub! 😊

Without wasting times, we changed into our swimming attires and off to the…
